Please use the resources on this site to facilitate dreaming of inclusive futures that are sustainanble, equitible, and driven by locally grown soultions. The Floating Kīpuka is a tool to set an expansive framework for what science is and who are knowledge bearers.

Please share completed story sheets and images objects created so that the project sample deck can be expanded to inspire others. Share to corinne(at)okadadesign.com.

Ideally, this project will elevate interest in the creation of a range of accessible functioning biotechnology conversation kits for greater co-innovation design within communities most impacted by biotechnology and agricultural technology.

This project is taking a respectful and open approach to building story collections to ensure that the cultural meaning is reflected in how they are develop, manage, and presented here. We know that there are stories in the collections that may be of particular value and importance to Indigenous, First Nations, Native American, Aboriginal and other marginalized local communities who have been excluded and written out of the record through colonial processes of documentation and record-keeping.

This project aims to align with the Local Contexts initiative, an online platform enabling reciprocal curation workflows for Indigenous collections. Local Contexts provides a suite of community-driven tools and labels for building Indigenous knowledge into the public historical record and for recognising Indigenous cultural authority over how such collections are shared, accessed and used.

The Floating Kīpuka kit is using the Local Contexts ‘Open to Collaborate’ notice as a first step towards building relationships of trust and collaboration with Indigenous communities.

You can find out more about these items, and collaborate or engage with us if you hold information about them, through the Local Contexts Hub.

Open to Collaborate

The Floating Kipuka project is committed to the development of new modes of collaboration, engagement, and partnership for the care and stewardship of past and future heritage stories participants share as they dream of the future.
